As expected storm Gerrit hit just as we were leaving. We said our goodbyes, paid the bill and set off. Although the weather was appalling most drivers were being sensibly and we made good progress for the first couple of hours. However, at Dorchester we joined a queue of traffic that lasted nearly all the way home. A journey that normally takes just under 4 hours took five and a half hours. Shame to end such a lovely holiday break in a three and a half hour traffic jam. Still, mustn’t grumble, a great time was had by all.
Of course the house was cold and dark when we arrived home - with energy prices as they are I only left the heating on very very low. Turned up the heating and took dog for a well deserved walk. He is remarkably good when travelling. Most of the time he just lays in the back of the car behind the back seats with no complaint at all. Occasionally he will get up and have a look around, but most of the time we don’t know he is there.
Although he is very good when we go away we know he doesn’t like it. It was clear he was glad to be home and after his exercise just settled into the usual routine – food and sleep.
The difficult drive home had really taken its toll and I was shattered. After doing just the basic unpacking I went for a lie down.
