Overnight the weather has calmed down a bit and it is no longer drizzling so now we can see the other side of the bay. Getting a more substantial walk today seems a real possibility; we’ll see what it’s like after breakfast. The weather here on the Cornish Peninsula can change very quickly. The forecast is looking good until about mid afternoon with light winds and some sunny intervals, then it’s back to grey skies and heavy rain, but lighter winds than we have been having. Tomorrow, when we are heading back home there are yellow weather warnings of heavy rain and strong winds - oh dear, I’m not looking forward to that.
As the Met Office predicted the weather brightened up but there was little in the way of the sunny intervals forecast. The main difference today is the lack of wind, what a relief that is. Walking on the beach across the bay was lovely and it certainly brought everyone out to exercise off some of the previous days excesses. We walked almost 6km to the next headland and back. As we were walking back the surfers were turning out in force to take advantage of the still large waves. When we got back to the room we made a cup of tea and sat in the bay window watching the surfers perform. Already the weather is turning dull to anticipate the gathering storm. The sky is getting darker and visibility reducing; I’m glad we went out when we did.
We will skip the hot chocolate and Christmas cake this afternoon because we discovered that the hot chocolate being served is not the smooth and delicious continental style made from melted chocolate but the disgustingly sickly sweet type usually served in the UK; very disappointing.
Dinner was a less extravagant affair this evening, described as “bistro favourites“. This is our last main meal because we head back home tomorrow. After dinner we sat and listened to the pianist in the lounge for while before heading back to the room to start packing. Not looking forward to driving home tomorrow because storm Gerrit is due just about the time we are due to leave.
