It’s that time of year when the SAD kicks in and everything seems to go wrong. The months October to March seem interminable and I wish I could just hibernate. It’s a particularly difficult time at the moment because both my wife and dog are ill.
The dog’s problem is self inflicted. We think that while we were out in the forest he found a rotten deer carcass that he took upon himself to devour. We weren’t sure until after a few hours he was sick, with severe D&V overnight; we had a real mess to clear up in the morning. Fortunately it was quite well contained and avoided any carpeted areas.
This has now been going on for 3 days, and this afternoon there was a considerable amount of blood in his crap, so this evening we took him to the vet. The prognosis was good, with no lingering problems expected. The prescribed antibiotics should clear it up in a couple of days. Let’s hope so.
My wife’s problem is with a muscle spasm in the shoulder. This is a recurrence of a problem she suffered earlier in the year when on holiday. It’s extremely painful and prevents her from doing much at all. She can’t get comfortable so has difficulty sleeping. The pain killers seem to work only intermittently and the heat treatment is difficult to apply consistently in the right place. There is no cure; just time and gentle exercise - it could take up to six weeks.
