This site is created using Hugo. I evaluated several different static site generators) SSGs to find what I consider to be the best balance between ease of use, features and flexibility. There are too many to test them all, I just looked at the most common/popular ones that seemed to be well supported. None of them came anywhere close to being as easy to set up and configure as the blurb led me to expect.
Having settled on Hugo, I spent several evenings choosing and installing a theme, which was tricky to say the least. For all the themes I tried, none of the installation instructions worked. Eventually I got Blackburn Theme functioning as I wanted, the exception being that so far I have been unable to work out how to create an archives page.
I don’t want every blog I ever write to be part of one very long scrolling page. I really want the front page to show a limited number, say 5 to 10, of the most recent posts, with the previous ones relegated to an archive page. Many of the others SSG advertise that feature, but it is not available as far as I can see in Hugo, and there seems to be no interest in the community to provide it. I will have to hone my programming skills - never used Go before so it will be a steep learning curve.
Consider the site very much a work in progress.
